The KPI Institute at 14th Annual HR Summit 2016, Singapore
Between the 17th-18th of May, 2016, at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, The KPI Institute became actively involved in the 14th Annual HR Summit as a partner and supporter of the event. Following the success of the HR Summit, we would like to share with you our experience.
Organised by HRM Asia, the 14th Annual HR Summit was a great success, with more than 4,000 attendees. The Summit was split into six streams: C-Suite Symposium, Strategy, Retention, Talent, HRM and SMEs@HR Summit and brought together key HR professionals, C-Suite-level figures, motivational experts, along with a whole host of networking and sharing opportunities.
14th Annual HR Summit Insights
The HR Summit provided a unique platform for HR professionals to access leading approaches and key information that can help them improve their strategy and further on develop their career.
Tan Kok Yam, Head, Smart Nation Programme Office, Prime Minister’s Office Singapore, kicked off the Summit by delivering his keynote speech that touched on three key factors: HR practices, technology and the workforce. He explained that all three factors were interlinked to maximizing human capital. Tan also addressed the aims of Singapore’s Smart Nation programme which is to leverage on technology and to see how Singaporeans can use it to build a better community.
The C-Suite Symposium featured some heavyweight speakers, such as Julian Birkinshaw, Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship & Director of the Deloitte Institute at the London Business School, Dr Marshall Goldsmith, Thinkers50 Global Management Thought-Leader, Best-Selling Author and World-renowned Leadership Coach, and John Bunch, Advisor to CEO and Holacracy Implementation Leader, Zappos (USA), among many others.
Dr Goldsmith shared some fascinating insights on leadership via his exclusive Master Series Workshop, which was broken into two parts, while also dazzling the audience with his Plenary session on how individuals behave due to certain “triggers” which occur, based on his new book entitled Triggers.
Professor Birkinshaw also conducted an exclusive Master Series Workshop entitled, “Twin Imperatives for Making your Company Fit for the Future”. In his session, he introduced three distinctive leadership styles – Bureaucracy, Meritocracy and Adhocracy – that can help a company to be future-ready.
Rosiah Ismail, Head of HR, Jamiyah Singapore, delivered a compelling presentation on “Performance Management Toolkit for SMEs”. She offered some tips and tricks on how to implement an effective performance management system, among those being to set no more than five smart objectives to ensure that employees can deliver up to expectation.
Joanna Flint, Country Director, Google Singapore, shared how her organisation is driving a culture of “10X thinking”. She cited that making 10% improvement on aspects was not significant; rather, the tech giant is looking to craft a culture whereby ten times the improvement on any particular issue should be the norm.
There was a frank Q&A session with Desmond Kuek, President and Group CEO, SMRT Corporation. In an in-depth discussion with Channel NewsAsia presenter Steve Lai, Kuek shared how SMRT is driving its own transformational and culture change, and also candidly shared his insights on a wide range of topics involving SMRT.
Social networking site Twitter also shared with audiences on its unique performance management system, with Bala Subramaniam, Head of HR, South Asia + Pacific, highlighting that “if its employees do not make mistakes, that means we’re not pushing the boundaries enough”.
There was also an interesting panel discussion involving senior HR and C-Suite heads from Levi Strauss, Vodafone, Millward Brown and Tower Transit Singapore. The quartet shared how their respective organisations were spurring engagement through its own unique non-monetary programmes.
This year’s HR Summit’s Free Workforce Strategy Sessions and brand-new Expo Power Talks were a big hit with attendees, with overwhelming responses garnered for both features.
Overall, attendees gain useful and practical insights on a wide range of topics including leadership development, networking, culture, gender parity, productivity, and consulting.
