Performance Improvement and KPIs Forum – Overview Day 1

September 9th was the first day of the Performance Improvement and KPIs Forum, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The forum was opened with an introductory and welcome session hosted by Aurel Brudan, Chief Executive Officer at The KPI Institute, followed by keynote presentations, panel discussions and a roundtable session engaging both speakers and delegates in short discussions on a variety of performance improvement related topics.

The first presentation belonged to Teodora Gorski, Managing Director at The KPI Institute Middle East Division. Her presentation, “Best practices in selecting the right KPIs to measure objectives and beyond ”, offered insights on how to design a coherent and qualitative performance system within organisations. Teodora Gorski stressed the idea that proper standardization is pivotal in setting the right ground when embarking on the road to establishing a performance management system. This standardization ensures proper differentiation and understanding of performance management tools and principles.

The following presentation was delivered by Anuar Rozhan, Chief Executive Officer at KPISOFT. Titled “Business Intelligence software as performance improvement enabler”, the presentation placed great emphasis on technology as one of the key reasons for developing performance management systems and tools to increase organizational results. According to Anuar Rozhan, transforming raw data in meaningful and useful information has major importance in supporting specialists to provide reliable and insightful reports and analyses.

“Balanced Scorecard & KPIs Setting : Case Study of Northport” was the title of the 3rd presentation of the day, given by Abdul Wahab Hassan, Head Productivity & Quality Management, Northport. The session presented insights on how Northport implemented their own Balanced Scorecard system, set and tracked their KPIs.

The following presentation was named “Talent Analytics Driving a High Performing Culture” and was delivered by Caroline Palmstedt, Regional Talent Management Lead
at Monsanto Asia Pacific. Caroline presented how talent analytics was used as key driver for assessing and investing in talent & performance management at Monsanto, propelling performance and talent development, as well as generating positive impact on business. She also shared neuroscience findings that can used in order to drive a high performing culture.

The next presentation, held by Aurel Brudan, announced the official launch of the Performance Improvement in ASEAN 2015 survey report. The survey aimed to increase awareness on global and regional KPI practice trends, enhance the utilization of Performance Improvement Systems in organizations today, and shed light into Performance Improvement best practices identified in 2015. At the Forum, Aurel Brudan presented the main suvery results.

What followed was a panel discussion, where reflections of the day, up until this point, were shared by the key speakers, namely: Aurel Brudan, Mei Lynn Chan, May-Lene Tan, Caroline Palmstedt, and Mohd Haris Aziz. The main discussion focused on the state of performance improvement and KPIs in SE Asia.

After the panel discussion, the presentations continued with May-Lene Tan, HR Head for South East Asia Alstom Group. Her session, “Boost effectiveness by building a performance culture in your organisation”, outlined the major challenges faced when building a performance culture in organisations, as well as solutions on how to address them.

The day concluded with a presentation delivered by Wan Ezrin Sazli, Group Head Leadership and Talent Development at Air Asia, who talked about “People Strategy for High Performance Culture”. Through the presentation, Wan Ezrin Sazli focused on sharing best practices based on pragmatic ideas as opposed to idyllic situations, while using common sense for powerful solutions related to performance.
